The University of Northampton has launched a research project to explore how critical decisions are made under pressure during events.
Claire Drakeley, the university’s deputy head of events, tourism and hospitality is hoping the project will support effective decision-making by examining the many factors outside of a typical event manager’s control.
The ‘Decision Making in Events’ research survey is available to view and complete online and Drakeley has urged event professionals to take part.
It involves responding anonymously to five real event scenarios, considering the decisions you might make, how you approach those decisions and what influences your choices. The survey takes approximately 25 minutes to complete.
“Ultimately, this research will enable event managers to make decisions more effectively under pressure,” she said. “It will be used for developing a model of good practice in event decision-making.”
The results will be shared via the publication of a report. Summary findings will also be circulated to the membership of industry associations and offered to industry media. There is an option to submit an email address when responding to the survey for anyone wishing to receive the findings directly.
